How to reset an iPod
You're walking along, listening to your iPod, when you decide to skip a few songs. You try to use the click wheel or the scroll wheel, but nothing is happening. It seems that your iPod has frozen up on you or locked up on you. Now, that doesn't mean that your iPod or iPod Nano is broken and needs to be replaced. What it does mean, though, is that your iPod might need to be reset. And learning how to reset an iPod is easy, quick and can save you a great amount of hassle, aggravation and frustration.
Now, learning the right way how to reset an iPod depends on the type and make of iPod that you have. First of all, before you work on resetting your iPod, make certain that the hold button isn't engaged. In many instances, that's the simple reason as to why your iPod won't react to the commands that you give to it.
If you have an older make of iPod, such as the original iPod, here is how to reset an iPod.
1. Turn the hold switch on, then turn it off again.
2. Hold down the play/pause and menu buttons until the Apple logo appears. This should take around 8 seconds approximately.
Now, if you have a later version of the iPod, such as the Apple iPod Nano, here is how to reset an iPod like the iPod Nano.
A. Turn the hold switch on, then turn it off again.
B. Hold down the play/pause and menu buttons until the Apple insignia appears. This should take around 8 seconds approximately.
It's interesting that in both instances, how to reset an iPod is exactly the same. Now, if you tried both techniques, and are still discovering that your iPod is not doing what you want it to do, make certain that it is charged. Sometimes, your iPod or iPod Nano just might not have enough juice to work properly. A nice charging session just might do the trick.
Another thing to note is that when you reset your iPod, your songs won't necessarily be wiped away or disappear, but any custom settings that you have installed in your iPod Nano might be erased as well.
