About the iPod Video

Here's a little tidbit about popular the iPod Video: even though it's commonly referred to as the iPod Video, the actual name of the item is the iPod 5G. This particular version of the iPod was released on October 12, 2005, which was after the initial launch date of the popular iPod Nano.

The most obvious feature of the iPod Video is its ability to store and play movies on its screen. The screen, which measures only 2.5" diagonally, was actually the biggest target of criticism directed at the iPod Video. How could you create an MP3 player that has such a small screen? Also, the screen tended to scratch easily from time to time.

However, for the most part, the iPod Video was, and still is a popular device. In addition to playing music and movies, it could also store and display photographs too. And, with the proper connection, you can actually play movies or slideshows from your iPod Video and have them project right onto your television set!

The iPod Video is one of the first portable media devices to be truly multimedia. With the ability to play movies, show pictures, and, of course, play music, it was one of the first "gotta have it" devices for mediaphiles of all ages.
