Play Station 3

The Sony Play Station 3 is one of the most advanced home video game consoles that has ever been developed, designed, manufactured and released. And what's even more impressive than that is the sheer popularity of the Play Station 3. Casual video game fans and hardcore gamers from Canada to Japan to Australia to the United Kingdom lined up for days prior to its release (it was released to the public for sale on November 17, 2006) and were ready, willing, able and more than happy to shell out a pretty penny to get their hands on the Play Station 3.

So just how popular was the Play Station 3 upon its release, when compared to the other Playstation systems or the popular Playstation Portable handheld video game system? There was the story of one fellow who flew from England to the USA only to purchase a Play Station 3, because the exchange rate worked more in his favor by converting his pounds into dollars and buying it in the States. Think about that - he spent the money to buy a round trip ticket, and presumably a hotel room, just so he could get a Play Station 3! Now, that is serious dedication and passion for a product. Or maybe it's a bit obsessive!

In any event, the release of the Play Station 3 was unlike any other Playstation product released before, and that includes the popular PSP. Add to the fact that the video games that are available for the new Sony Play Station 3 are simply incredible and incredibly fun to play - and that you can get great accessories to go with the Play Station 3, and it's easy to figure out why it was such a hot item upon its release, and why it continues to be such a great selling product for electronics retailers.

Of course, add to the fact that the advertising and marketing campaign for the Play Station 3 hit its target audience right where they would see it most - at sporting events, movies and other sources of entertainment, as well as the pristine reputation and excellent history of the Playstation name and brand, and Sony was guaranteed to do very well with the Play Station 3. And, of course, having the Play Station 3 be one of the coolest home video game systems ever developed won't hurt sales either!
