Xbox 720

Here's an interesting question to ponder: how soon after the release and launch of the Xbox 360 to the public did Microsoft - the maker and manufacturer of the Xbox home video game console - begin developing and working on the Xbox 720? Now, it's foolish and premature to assume that if Microsoft would release a successor to the Xbox 360 (and they may decide that the Xbox 360 is the last Microsoft entry in the video game market), that it would be called the Xbox 720. But, for the sake of this blog post, imagination and argument, let us pretend that right now, in some secret lab somewhere, Microsoft scientists are working on the Xbox 720.

So, what would it look like? And what will it be able to do?

The graphics that the Microsoft Xbox 720 would possess would either be completely outstanding and mind-blowing, or it would be just a simple and nice upgrade from what the Xbox 360 can do and play. It's hard to decipher because in today's gaming world, we are so used to, and we expect, brilliant game quality every time out. But, have we reached a limit into what video game consoles can do?

The Microsoft Xbox 360 can already download games, movies, videos, and music right onto the hard drive of the game console itself. They can also connect online and allow users to play against each other in a real-time interactive environment. They also possess outstanding wireless technology, an impressive video game library, and a host of amazing accessories that take any video game playing experience to unprecedented levels. So, with all that being said and established, what exactly does the theoretical Xbox 720 have to offer?

Of course, the above argument can be easily shot down. Just look at video game systems and games in the past and how innovative they are today. Did we ever think that Super Mario Bros. 3 would ever be surpassed?

I would assume that the Xbox 720 would have a much sleeker design than the Xbox 360. Smaller and lighter with extra high-definition capabilities. Or maybe the Xbox 720 could plug right into your brain, and gamers can manipulate and play the game with thoughts of the mind rather than buttons and fingers. Hey…it could happen!

One thing is definitely for certain: should Microsoft release the Xbox 720 to supplant the Xbox 360, you can bet that it will have an amazing advertising campaign, a super-high price and such a demand that electronic retailers and stores all over the world will have a difficult - if not impossible - time to keep up with the demand.

And you can probably count on that.
