The Apple iPod has changed the way the worlds listens to, shares, and transports their music. More and more, you will see people walking down the street or sitting on the bus with those ubiquitous white earphones. Once you see those, you know someone is listening to and enjoying their iPod. And if you are considering joining the iPod revolution, it’s real easy to do so – all you need to do is go out and purchase an iPod for yourself!
However, while you can just run out to your nearest electronic retailer and buy an iPod, there are some things you should research and consider before you do. Like with any important purchase, extensive and exhaustive research can save you the hassle of buying something that you do not need or want, or purchasing an item that does not suit your needs and budget. So, before you get that iPod Nano, there are a few things you should keep in mind before you get the right iPod for you.
First of all, what do you want your iPod to do for you? Now, we all know that the Apple iPod can play your favorite songs – after all, that’s what it was designed to do. However, besides playing music, there are other things that an iPod can do. Your iPod can play videos and movies if you like. Or, you can store and share your favorite photographs on your iPod. Some iPods can hold important documents and files. And other kinds of iPods have a calendar feature where you can store all your important appointment and contact information. So, while you want your iPod to play music, you will have to ask yourself if your want your iPod to perform other tasks as well.
Another thing that you’ll have to consider when purchasing an iPod is the memory capacity of iPod that you want. Some iPods can hold hundreds of songs, while other iPods can hold thousands of tunes. If you are an absolute music lover, then you will want to purchase an iPod that can hold as many songs as possible. But, if you have a small amount of music that you want to bring with you, then you may wish to get a smaller memory iPod.
Something else that you should research is if your computer is compatible with the Apple iPod. With generic MP3 players, you might be able to use them on any computer or with any music playing program. However, the Apple iPod is designed to only work with Apple iTunes. Now, if you already own a Mac at home, then there should be no problem hooking up you iPod to your Mac, as it should already have iTunes installed on it. But, if you are going to use a PC, then you will have to be certain that it can support iTunes. If your PC can indeed run iTunes properly, then you’ll be able to use your iPod with it. But, if your PC can’t, then you may need to upgrade the operating system on the computer or purchase a new machine altogether if you have an older model.
Something else that you should keep in mind before you purchase an iPod is how much warranty protection do you want with it. There are some places that offer partial warranties, while others offer full warranties. Of course, more extensive warranties will cost more money. You should definitely check out a variety of retail outlets and see what kinds of warranties they have to offer.
Of course, the last and most important thing that you’ll need to be mindful of is your budget. Apple iPods with more features and more memory will cost more money then less advanced versions. If you need and want all the extra iPod features, you should be prepared to spend more. However, if you just want an iPod for playing music, then you won’t need to spend as much money.
